The Week of April 26th

This week was literacy week! Students engaged in lots of different learning activities around reading and writing. It was lovely to see so many family members in for our literacy night last night.

Reading and Writing: Students finished their poetry unit and displayed their Haiku using an art project. Check out our finished projects below! Students also discussed how to apply their knowledge of figurative language to write a descriptive paragraph. Additionally, in reading students have been working hard on understanding and making text-to-text, text-to-self, and text-to-world connections. There are also pictures from our various reading and literacy activities throughout the week.

Social Studies and Science:

This week in social studies students have been exploring different indigenous groups of Canada. They have been doing independent and class research to help them better understand the different indigenous groups who live in Alberta.

In science students transplanted their seeds into soil. They are learning to take care of their seeds and discussing the different plants needs and parts. Additionally, students are building their observation skills by watching and documenting the growth of the plants. Today some student volunteers started an experiment where we are trying to regrow an onion and a stalk of celery. Check out our art project that went with our plant units!

Math:  In math this week students have started working on connecting their knowledge of fractions and decimals to percent. Please check out the links below for more information and the pictures for the fun project that went along with this!

In our movement breaks we have been introducing students to some of the terms we will be using in our upcoming geometry units. Students have been attempting to create the different shapes with their bodies.. it is a lot of fun!

Have a fabulous weekend!
