Week of March 8th

This week was full of learning fun! Please see below for the weeks highlights and reminders.

English Language Arts:

Students participated in discussions around oral story telling. They then designed and created their own story vines using the layering of felt to depict an event in their life. Next week they will be working on their oral speaking skills as they retell their personal story.

Math:

Students are continuing to strengthen their division strategies. This week they did some problem solving and began using the partial quotients method to solve division equations. See the link below if you would like to review some of the strategies we have been practicing at home!

Maker Space:

In maker we played with money to help build our background knowledge of decimals! Students practiced ordering items from a menu and totalling the cost.

Social Studies / Science:

In social studies this week students talked about the importance of parks! We had discussions around the benefits to protecting parks and whose responsibility it is to take care of them. Students then applied their research skills to dig deeper into why their chosen park is important both in groups and independently. They then summarized their research orally or in writing.

Reminders:

- please practice basic facts at home (particularly division)

- please read at home with your student

Have a wonderful weekend!
