May 13 - 16

Happy long weekend! Here are some highlights from the week!

First....some reminders....

  1. No school Friday, May 17th - PD day OR May 20th, for Victoria Day.
  2. We have a field trip on May 27th to Telus Spark. Please reach out if you have questions about payment or paperwork, and how to pay online through PowerSchool.
  3. May 21-24 - Cultural Appreciation Week! On the 22nd we encourage all staff and students to wear something or bring something to share that represents their culture so they can share.

Math

Students are learning how to use a protractor to measure angles. They are learning that benchmark angles like 45 degrees, 90 degrees, 180 degrees, 270 degrees, and 360 degrees are important referants for estimating angles before measuring with a protractor. Please look forward to a SHOW WHAT YOU KNOW (quiz / written assessment) to see where your child is at and how you can support them. Check out their angle art below!

Science

As we wrap up our learning about plant life cycles, students learned how to review (study) previously taught concepts so that they could:

1. work collaboratively
2. reflect on their learning
3. clarify any misunderstandings

And then....SHOW WHAT YOU KNOW about plants and plant life cycles. Please look forward to their SWYK on Tuesday or Wednesday which they will bring home.

Social Studies

Students are learning about Alberta's history and the various cultural groups that have resided in Alberta. He are some highlights of students sharing their learning with each other in expert peer groups.

Writing / Word Work

Students continue to work towards crafting proceduaral writing that include:

  • transition words
  • steps (for organization)
  • accurate verbs
  • correct capitalization
  • accurate punctuation
  • grade-level spelling
We will continue to work on this until June before moving onto personal reflective / autobiography writing.

Please communicate with us if your student in not attending the field trip to Telus Spark. We need to make arrangements for them at school.

Until then,
Have a wonderful long weekend.

Ms. Irvine and Mrs. Harris
