May 6th - 10th

A few notes before we get started on our learning for the week!

  • Great job to our grade four music club that performed on Friday afternoon!
  • We are doing a fun social studies project in June that requires shoe boxes...if you happen to have a shoe box in the next month that you don't need and are willing to donate, could you please send it in with your students. Thanks!
  • Field trip forms will be coming home soon (next week). Please look for them in your students blue folder and return them ASAP. Thank you to all of our volunteers who are coming along!
  • Students have work in their blue folders to share with you.
Hats on for mental health day!

In english language arts this week students began a unit on procedural writing. The focus of this unit is passing on information, using transition words and correctly applying convention skills.
In our small group reading lessons students continue to work on decoding strategies for books at their level as well as making connections. In word work students continue to learn different suffixes!

We also took our learning outside to do a read aloud and practice making connections. Students also completed a sketch at their sit spots.

In math we started a new unit this week on angles! Students learned worked on the following learning intentions...
- I can measure an angle using a protractor.
- I can use benchmark angles to estimate the size of an angle.
- I can identify right, obtuse, acute, and straight angles
We also played some math games to practice our basic facts.

In social studies this week students conducted group research where they learned about an indigenous peoples in Alberta. They then synthesized their information to share what they learned in both written and picture form. Check out the timeline we are building as a class :)

In science students continue to learn about plants. We are doing several different class experiments including regrowing vegetables and growing sprouts, and placing celery in coloured water. We also had some volunteers who transplanted our classroom vegetable garden. Additionally, we played plant jeopardy!!!

In P.E we finished off a gymnastics unit last week and this week we have started a new unit on badminton!

Have a great weekend!
